Notes for Thomas Edgeman "Edward" WALKER
He was known in the family as :Young Tom" and was an early settler of Lester, Raleigh County, West Virginia where he was councilman, store owner, farmer and had the first soft-drink bottling works in Raleigh County, West Virginia. As of 1921 Thomas operated an axe handle manufacturing business ar Lester, Mr. Elmer N. Creger of Shady Springs, Raliegh County, West Virginia remembers this. Thomas also operated a sawmill for Slab Fork Coal Company a time.33

The Raleigh Register Newspaper of 16 Jun 1930 mentioned the future Lester Church of God which is being constructed on Cook Street in Lester Heights is progressing steadily under the supervision of Thomas Walker and O. W. Thomas. It was known as the Walker Church for many years.33

The death of Thomas in 1931 was most unusual, he was plowing in a field at Lester with a team of horses, when reportedly the church pastor's wife approached Thomas to assist in transferring a piano to the Walker Church. Thomas left the horses in the field and accompanied others to assist with the piano moving. A truck bed had been loosely placed on a truck chassis in order to move the piano. As the truck came around a curve in Lester on the way to the nearby church, the truck bed toppled off the chassis with Thomas and the piano cuaght underneath, he was killed on the spot. 10
